Information about Todon.*
Todon.* is a small radical leftist and anti-authoritarian collective that operates a few non-commercial and open-source services, mostly powered by the ActivityPub protocol.
Our services are for radical anti-authoritarian leftists. We welcome anarchists, socialists, (climate) activists, the LGBTQIA+ community, environmentalists, anti-racists, anti-fascists, anti-capitalists, intersectionalists, vegans, human rights activists, etc. As far as they are radical, leftist and anti-authoritarian.
Terms of service and privacy policy
- If you use one of our services you should make yourself familiar with and accept our Terms of Service. Note that these terms can be changed by us for various reasons, so don't forget to check from time to time if you still accept them.
- Our Privacy Policy is the default privacy policy from Mastodon, but is also valid for our other services. Keep in mind that our servers are located in the European Union.
Mastodon
We operate two Mastodon servers:
- Todon.eu and Todon.nl are twin servers. Although the local timelines are different, the features, the moderators, the admin, the terms of service, the domain and user blocks are the same. Both servers are also connected by a relay server.
- We signed the Fedipact, what means that we won't federate with Meta's (formerly Facebook) Threads, as decided by the community. We also don't allow Twitter- and Nostr-bridges. If you see one, report. The reason therefore is that it imports a lot of hate speech, are involuntary (not even opt-out) and there is no interaction possible.
- Extra features:
- Character limit of toots: 1312 (instead of 500)
- Poll options limit: 10 (instead of 4)
- Search limit: 11 (instead of 5)
- Search engine indexing disabled by default (you can opt-in)
- Unauthenticated access to public timelines disabled
- We do not keep unnecessary data
- Extra themes:
- We've added the following themes to the vanilla Mastodon themes:
- Todon Classic Dark
- Column backgrounds are not as dark as the new defaults in Mastodon 4.3 and dropdownmenu transparency is disabled. This reduces eyestrain for various people.
- The boost icon is green instead of purplish. This makes it better recognisable for some people.
- Tangerine UI, Tangerine UI (Purple), Tangerine UI (Cherry) and Tangerine UI (Lagoon)
- A vibrant, fully-featured third party theme by Niléane. See the source here. Unsupported by Todon.*.
- Automatically switches from light to dark based on your system or browser preference.
- Mastodon Bird UI (Dark), Mastodon Bird UI (Light) and Mastodon Bird UI (Contrast)
- Mastodon with a modern birdsite-like user interface by Roni Laukkarinen. See the source here. Unsupported by Todon.*.
- Other visual customization's:
- We changed the unpopular Mastodon 4.3 styling of the content warning headers in something calmer for the eyes.
- We fixed the advanced web interface, that was not using the full width on high resolution displays. This is an open issue since the beginning of the Mastodon project (2016).
- We override the Post button with Toot for all languages. This is because we disagree with the unilateral decision to change this to something boring.
- Our Mastodon servers have no restrictions in where you're from or what language you speak, although we advise Dutch speaking people to join Todon.nl.

- Translations on our Mastodon servers are powered by DeepL, with a self-hosted LibreTranslate instance as a backup (when the monthly free 500.000 DeepL characters have been used).
